Healing Depth 1 Restore by Healing Guide

At the foothills of the Yorkshire Dales, Broughton Sanctuary has become the setting that some of the most serious transformation work in the United Kingdom consistently chooses: the Hoffman Process runs here, Path of Love returns season after season, and visiting facilitators of the calibre of Elena Brower, Sharon Blackie and the Myofascial Energetic Release lineage have made Avalon, the estate’s purpose-built biophilic wellbeing centre, their preferred British home. For guests arriving independently, the estate and its holiday homes offer genuine restorative immersion in one of England’s most quietly powerful landscapes.

For those arriving into one of the hosted retreats, the Healing Depth shifts entirely.

Broughton Sanctuary

Yorkshire’s most significant healing estate: a 3,000-acre sanctuary at the edge of the Dales that hosts the UK’s most serious transformation retreat providers within a purpose-built wellbeing centre and a landscape undergoing active rewilding.

About

Broughton Sanctuary is not easily categorised. It is an estate, a retreat venue, a holiday destination, a nature recovery project and a conscious community space simultaneously, and that breadth is precisely what makes it extraordinary. At its centre is Avalon, a purpose-built wellbeing centre designed by Yiangou Architects with interiors by Patrick Kinmonth, constructed on biophilic principles with a pool suite, sauna and steam rooms, hydro-massage pool, relaxation rooms, PT studio and treatment spaces for holistic wellbeing guides. Around it, 23 holiday homes ranging from intimate cottages to the grand Broughton Hall itself are scattered across the estate, allowing guests to stay in a working landscape of rare quality.

What gives Broughton Sanctuary its genuine depth is not the facility but what the facility attracts. The Hoffman Process, one of the world’s most respected seven-day psychological transformation retreats, runs here regularly. Path of Love, the internationally recognised emotional release and growth intensive, returns multiple times a year. The Myofascial Energetic Release series, a sophisticated professional bodywork training programme, uses Avalon as its British base. Sharon Blackie, whose work on myth, landscape and psyche has made her one of the most important voices in contemporary depth psychology, retreats here. Elena Brower brings her yoga and inner peace work to the estate. Ruby Wax, whose Frantic World mindfulness programme is clinically grounded and UK-leading, runs here too. Co-founder of London’s Alternatives Malcolm Stern describes it as the UK’s leading retreat centre, and Alternatives is not in the business of flattery.

The estate is also engaged in one of the UK’s more serious rewilding projects, including the recent reintroduction of beavers, and the ecological restoration of the landscape is understood here as inseparable from human restoration. The weekly wellbeing programme at Avalon is open to the local community as well as guests. The walled garden bistro Utopia serves seasonal, plant-based food from produce grown on site.

Highlights

The Hoffman Process at Broughton Sanctuary is one of the most significant healing experiences available anywhere in the United Kingdom, and the fact that it repeatedly chooses this setting is itself a form of curatorial endorsement. The biophilic pool suite at Avalon, bookable by guests staying on the estate, is a genuinely beautiful space. The landscape at the edge of the Dales, with its limestone escarpments, ancient woodland and rewilding corridors, does restorative work that no treatment room can replicate.

If you come to Broughton Sanctuary for the landscape and the quiet, it will give you that generously. If you come for one of the retreats that chose this place, you may find it difficult to explain to people what happened to you here.
