Healing Depth Three - Transform — Healingguide Certified 2026

On a 100-acre Maharaja’s Palace Estate at 1,300 metres above the sacred Ganges valley, overlooking the yoga capital of Rishikesh and enclosed by Sal forests through which Hindu sages have sought enlightenment for centuries, Ananda in the Himalayas has been practising the integration of Ayurveda, Yoga and Vedanta with international wellness since 2000, giving it twenty-five years of accumulated clinical and philosophical depth, more than eighty therapies, fifteen customisable signature programmes including full Panchakarma, and the kind of setting in which the inner shift that guests consistently describe begins not in a treatment room but in the car from Dehradun airport, somewhere on the mountain road through Rajaji National Park.

Healing in Rishikesh

Ananda in the Himalayas

India’s first and most awarded destination spa, on a 100-acre Maharaja’s Palace Estate above Rishikesh in the Himalayan foothills, where twenty-five years of integrating classical Ayurveda, Yoga and Vedanta philosophy with international therapies, emotional healing and dosha-specific cuisine has produced a quality of transformative depth that few properties anywhere in the world can claim with equal legitimacy.

About

Rishikesh is called the yoga capital of the world for reasons that predate modern wellness culture by several thousand years. Hindu sages and saints have been coming to this bend of the Ganges to meditate, study and teach since ancient times. The Himalayan foothills here carry a quality of spiritual charge that guests of Ananda consistently describe before they can name it, usually somewhere on the mountain road approaching the estate. Ananda was established here in 2000 as India’s first destination spa, understanding from the beginning that this particular landscape is not a backdrop but a participant in the healing process.
The philosophical integration is the property’s defining quality. Ayurveda, Yoga and Vedanta are not three separate menus at Ananda but three dimensions of a single practice. Ayurvedic consultations determine the constitutional foundation. Yoga is taught in a dedicated Pavilion and Shala by the forest, in classical form from pranayama to yoga nidra. Vedanta, the philosophical inquiry into the nature of consciousness and the art of living, is offered in daily interactive discourses that address the fundamental questions behind the symptoms that most guests arrive with. The three together give the wellness experience an intellectual and spiritual coherence that is genuinely rare in even the most accomplished wellness retreats. TCM, emotional healing expertise and physiotherapy are woven into the programme architecture alongside the classical Indian modalities.

The 25,000 sq ft spa holds 24 treatment rooms, a couple’s suite, two lounges and a full hydrotherapy centre. Over 80 therapies span Ayurvedic treatments from Panchakarma to Shirodhara, Tibetan therapies, international massage and bodywork, sound healing and Oriental modalities. The fifteen-plus signature programmes are individually customised through pre-arrival health questionnaires, Ayurvedic doctor consultations, emotional healing assessment and physiotherapy, with interim assessments during the stay and post-departure follow-up. Panchakarma at 21 nights is the property’s deepest clinical offering, an intensive Ayurvedic detoxification and rejuvenation process that requires this duration to unfold properly and is practised here with full classical rigor. The dosha-specific wellness cuisine uses produce from the organic farm and is individually tailored to each guest’s constitutional requirements at every meal.
The estate itself, the Sal forests, the golf course, the trek to Kunjapuri mountain top and temple, the Ganga Aarti ceremony on the banks of the Ganges, the white kurta pyjamas that all guests wear, the musician playing bamboo flute in the aromatherapy area: these are not amenities. They are the environment in which healing happens, and Ananda has understood this from the beginning.

Highlights

Twenty-five years as India's leading destination spa, with multiple Condé Nast Readers' Choice World's Best recognitions, gives Ananda an institutional depth that cannot be replicated by a newer property however well-designed. The Vedanta daily discourse, rare at any luxury wellness property in the world, provides an intellectual and philosophical framework for the physical and somatic work that gives the Ananda experience a dimension most wellness retreats do not offer. The Panchakarma at 21 nights, practised in the landscape where Ayurveda was born, is among the most authentic and complete offerings of this modality available in any luxury hospitality context.

Ananda is the answer to the question of what happens when a place, a philosophy and twenty-five years of genuine practice align perfectly: you arrive one way and leave another, and the difference is not primarily about the treatments but about the landscape and the teaching that held you while they were happening.
