There is a word in Malayalam, the language of Kerala, that carries within it the full meaning of a return: not to a place but to a condition. Tulåh names that condition, and the sanctuary built around it in the hills of Chelambra near Calicut is an attempt to make that return structurally possible for anyone who arrives carrying a body or a life that has moved out of alignment.

Faizal E. Kottikollon, an entrepreneur with deep roots in Kerala and a lifelong search for the relationship between purpose, health and meaning, founded tulåh from personal conviction rather than market analysis. His co-founder Shabana Faizal, named among India’s top ten philanthropists in 2025 and a cultural patron whose creative sensibility is woven into every aesthetic decision at the sanctuary, has shaped tulåh not only as a medical institution but as an environment where beauty, art and human connection are understood as dimensions of healing rather than decorations of it. The Faizal & Shabana Foundation’s work in education, healthcare and the arts extends the philosophy beyond the property into the surrounding community.
The clinical architecture of tulåh is without parallel at any Indian wellness property. A fully equipped operating theatre supports selected medical and surgical procedures across ENT and respiratory care, endoscopic and gastrointestinal interventions, gynaecological procedures, aesthetic and regenerative medicine, and orthopaedic and functional restoration including arthroscopic knee surgery, ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair and peripheral nerve procedures. ICU rooms support post-operative monitoring and higher-acuity care. The sister institution, Meitra Hospital in Calicut, developed in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic, provides access to more than 200 specialists across disciplines when the complexity of a guest’s condition requires it. This creates a genuine continuum of care that begins with diagnosis, moves through therapeutic and restorative work, and, where required, continues into surgical intervention and intensive recovery, all within a single coordinated environment.

The diagnostic framework begins with the tulåh Life Index™, a proprietary assessment tool that charts biological age, metabolic balance, functional capacity and wellbeing across multiple dimensions, producing a personalised health roadmap before any programme is designed. The healing modalities available span genome and microbiome analysis, advanced diagnostics, Ayurveda, Panchakarma delivered with clinical oversight and multidisciplinary guidance, Sowa Rigpa, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Functional Medicine, Clinical Yoga (a therapeutic interpretation of Iyengar Yoga designed for spinal and structural alignment), sports medicine, emotional therapy and Vedanta philosophy. A monthly resident teacher from the Vedanta Academy founded by Swami A. The Sonorium is tulåh’s proprietary acoustic sanctuary, an engineered sound environment designed to elevate traditional sound healing into a clinical and transcendental experience. The Patented Vichy Bed is tulåh’s redesign of hydrotherapy-based bodywork, combining water therapy with comfort at a level that conventional Vichy beds cannot achieve. The tulåh-at-home app ensures that the Sustain phase of every journey, the fourth chapter of the four-step approach of Diagnose, Assess, Heal, Sustain, continues after departure with personalised daily guidance.

The architecture is LEED and WELL certified, built on a regenerative philosophy: solar energy, aquifer recharge pits, responsible water systems and energy-efficient radiant cooling throughout. The food programme draws on seasonal local produce and Ayurvedic nutritional principles.
