Mystras is a ghost city on the slopes of the Taygetus in the southern Peloponnese, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of Byzantine churches, palaces and fortifications abandoned in the nineteenth century when the modern town of Sparta was built below. The landscape here is dramatic and particular: the Taygetus rises sharply to over 2,400 metres, its ridge forming the spine of the Mani peninsula and carrying some of the most demanding trekking routes in Greece. The light of the Peloponnese at this altitude, filtered through oak and pine, and the sense of ancient accumulation in the stones around the property give the setting a quality that no developer could reproduce.

Euphoria Retreat was founded by Marina Efraimoglou and her sister Myrto, and the family ownership remains visible in the warmth and particularity of the hospitality. The healing philosophy they developed draws on the Ancient Greek understanding of the body as a system of interconnected elements, on the Chinese Five Element Theory of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water, and on precision medicine as developed through the property’s clinical partnership with EUCRASIA-IMON. The result is a 360-degree approach that moves from cellular health upward through metabolic balance, emotional regulation, mental clarity and spiritual orientation.

The precision medicine offering is clinically substantive. Non-invasive home testing and on-site analysis of over 250 biomarkers, including genomic profiling, are used to create hyper-personalised interventions targeting cellular health and metabolic function. This is not spa language applied to clinical concepts. It is clinical methodology applied to a healing context. The medical programmes, developed under the name Tholos 33 and the 360 Methodos, address longevity, female health, immunity, cellular detox and metabolic reset through individual protocols designed by the medical team.
The spa occupies a significant architectural space, designed in Byzantine monastic aesthetic with a spherical pool as its centrepiece, alongside indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tepidarium, Finnish sauna, herbal steam bath, cold plunge, cold ice mist, Kneipp therapy water path and experiential showers. Daily group wellness activities, all included, span meditation, yoga, Mat Pilates, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, TRX, fitness sessions, lectures and guided trekking on the Taygetos trails. The mobile phone prohibition across all areas of the property, including the restaurant and spa, is enforced as a matter of healing philosophy rather than policy.

The programme portfolio includes the Odysseus Journey, a five-day exploration of self-knowledge through reflection and practice, Conscious Leadership for those navigating high-responsibility roles, Emotional Harmony for reconnection and emotional regulation, the Emotional and Physical Transformation Retreat combining body and psychological work, and the couples programme. Duration ranges from three to fourteen days. Programmes are structured and individually designed within a framework, not assembled from spa menu options.
